New COA website: Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) Questionnaire
The ZBI is one of the most widely used instruments for assessing the burden experienced by the caregivers of older persons with dementia and disabled persons.
Mapi Research Trust, the leading curator and license distributor of Clinical Outcome Assessments (COAs) and Mapi Language Services, the most trusted provider of linguistic validation, today announced the launch of a new, redesigned version of a website focused on the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) Questionnaire.
The ZBI was published in the early 80’s by Dr Steven Zarit and can be used for screening caregivers to identifying those people at higher risk, comparing burden in different groups or populations, and for planning or evaluating the outcomes of treatment. Initially developed for caregivers of persons with dementia, the ZBI has since then been widely used with a large variety of other disorders including stroke, cancer, chronic mental illness, and for parents of children with severe physical or mental health problems.
Mapi Research Trust and Mapi Language Services have partnered with Dr. Zarit to be the exclusive licensor, distributor and translator of the ZBI and all its derivatives including translations and electronic versions. “Mapi Language Services has already produced over 90 translations of the ZBI easily available through our online ePROVIDE platform” said Katrin Conway, Managing Director of the Mapi Research Trust.
Of note, the ZBI is also at the heart of a poster developed with Dr Zarit titled “Translation of the Zarit Burden Interview 22 items (ZBI-22) into 95 languages: challenges and importance of the conceptual definition of the original version”
“I have been thoroughly pleased with the professionalism with which the Mapi Group has handled every aspect of managing the measure that I have developed. There is a commitment by Mapi staff in conducting all their activities the right way. My measure has had far wider distribution that would have been possible had I managed it myself” said Dr. Zarit.
