The KOOS, HOOS and FAOS now distributed by Mapi Research Trust, on behalf of Professor Roos

• The Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS): aiming at assessing knee injury and osteoarthritis
• The Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS): to evaluate the patients’ opinion about their hip and associated problems
• The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS): to evaluate the patients’ opinion about their foot and ankle problems

Developed more than 20 years ago, these measures have been widely used in different settings including clinical trials and are considered today as the Gold Standards in the field of joint injury and osteoarthritis.

Willing to facilitate access to the scales whilst controlling their use and integrity, Professor Roos has entrusted Mapi Research Trust with the management of the KOOS, HOOS, FAOS and their derivatives.

The instruments are free to use for non-funded and funded academic users. On the other hand, commercial users and health care organizations/hospitals/medical centers must pay a fee. A permission is however always required.

About Professor Ewa Maria Roos

PhD Ewa Roos is Chair of Health Science and Professor at Musculoskeletal Function and Physiotherapy and Center for Muscle and Joint Health, Department of Sports and Clinical Biomechanics at University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Principal outcomes of her research have been ground-breaking randomized controlled studies comparing surgery to exercise therapy for patients with a variety of knee conditions and the development of the Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark (GLA:D®) non-profit project for people with knee and hip pain. Her contribution to public health was recognized when she won the OARSI (Osteoarthritis Research Society International) Clinical Research Award for her “outstanding work in exercise as prevention and treatment of joint pain, joint injury and osteoarthritis”.
